Junior High School (Grades 7-9)

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Hillcrest Montessori Junior High Program, beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. This exciting new offering expands our commitment to Montessori education by bringing a dynamic, experience-based approach to students in grades 7 through 9.

Built on the same values and educational excellence that define Hillcrest Montessori Elementary, the Junior High Program is designed to meet the unique developmental needs of adolescents—supporting not just academic growth, but personal discovery, independence, and real-world readiness.

A Different Kind of Junior High

At HMES, we believe education should be relevant, challenging, and meaningful. Our Junior High Program is not a traditional Junior High school—it’s a launchpad for young teens who are ready to explore their interests, engage with the world around them, and take ownership of their learning.

Students will participate in a wide variety of hands-on experiences, including:

• Weekly interdisciplinary seminars and collaborative learning projects
• Drama and film immersion weeks, connecting creativity with communication
• Outdoor orientation trips, local and global research travel opportunities
• Wellness education and training in leadership, organization, and self-direction

Rooted in Montessori, Designed for the Modern World

The program is guided by Maria Montessori’s vision for adolescent education, focusing on three core areas:

• Self-Expression – Students grow their voice through the arts, writing, and performance
• Emotional Development – Adolescents build confidence, empathy, and emotional intelligence
• Preparation for Adult Life – Practical life skills, independent thinking, and real responsibility

Hillcrest Junior High School will be fully accredited by Alberta Education and , and our program will be working on its accreditation with International Montessori Council (IMC).

Applications Open in Fall 2025

The Hillcrest Montessori Junior High Program will officially begin in August 2026. Enrollment opens in Fall 2025 for new and current Hillcrest families. Space will be limited to maintain small class sizes and personalized learning.
